Unlocking A Healthy Mind and Body

How We Are Keep Your Mind and Body Healthy During Uncertain Times: Covid-19

As the Covid-19 pandemic continues to wreak havoc on our daily lives, it is important to find ways to reconnect with your mind and body to stay healthy during these uncertain times.

While Hampton Manor has taken substantial Covid-19 precautions to ensure their health and safety of our residents, we continue to keep the health of their mind and body a priority.

So today we are here to share a few of our secrets to mental and physical health during these uncertain times!

Exercise

It is common knowledge that one of the most important factors in not only physical, but mental health, is physical activity. Here at Hampton Manor we offer modified exercise classes specifically tailored for our elderly population several times each week. We have continued this ritual throughout quarantine and have added social distancing protocols to keep our residents moving!

But this physical activity isn’t only important for our residents, it is important for you too! Even if you are not an avid exerciser or have limitations to consider, we suggest you go for a walk each day to get your heart rate up and to enjoy some fresh air!

Maintain a Schedule

Consistency is key!

Providing our residents with a routine is important in maintaining in their physical and mental health. We use this structure by providing consistent meal times, regularly scheduled check ins, and daily morning and afternoon activities for our residents. You can check out these schedules at https://hamptonmanor.net/life-enrichment-programming/

You can create a similar structure for yourself as well:

  • Set an alarm to avoid sleeping too late.
  • Eat three full meals at appropriate times rather than snacking all day.
  • Vow to take a walk each evening to tire yourself out for a good nights rest.
  • Create bed time rituals so that your body can consistently unwind each day.

Teaching your body what to expect throughout the day can be key to a healthy mind and body!

Keep in Touch with Your Family and Friends

We know that this is a hot spot for lots of our residents, as Hampton Manor is still not accepting visitors. Our residents miss their family members and friends miserably.

We encourage and assist our residents in making frequent phone and video calls to family member to help cope with this new found isolation. And we encourage you to do the same!

Block out one hour a day to catch up with an old friend or family member. While you might not be able to see the people that you love right now, you can still share your life with them!

Do Something You Enjoy Each Day

Here at Hampton Manor we offer a jam packed activities calendar at each of our three sites. This ensures there are activities that appeal to all of our residents. These activities keep them busy and happy while so much craziness is going on in the world.

  • Find a good book to read
  • Rewatch some of your favorite movies
  • Enjoy nature
  • Get crafty
  • Start a home project
  • Play cards or board games

Do whatever makes you happy! And make these things a priority in your life. Feeding your mind with things that you love will take the stress off of your body.

While we are constantly trying to think of new ways to make our residents the happiest and healthiest that they can be, these 4 things are staples in our routine.

Give them a try! We know that the world is crazy as cases of Covid-19 continue to rise in the state of Florida. But this is the perfect time to reflect on your health and create new habits with all your newfound free time!

We hope our Hampton Manor community is remaining happy and healthy! See you soon!
